Firewire cables also known as IEEE 1394 are used to transmit large amounts of data at faster rates than a USB cable. Firewire cables are generally used for video or audio files.

Most pcs and laptops come with a firewire port. Typically a firewire port has the numbers 1394 next to it or has the symbol below next to the port. If your pc does not have a firewire port you can also purchase a firewire reader.
What is the difference between a 4 pin firewire connector and a 6 pin firewire connector?
There is little difference between a 4 pin and 6 pin connector. They both transmit data and work in the same way. The extra two pins on the 6 pin connector however will transmit power from your pc to the device your pc is connected to.
